Choosing the Best Wall Table for your Space

high top table

Living spaces are more important than ever right now. The majority of us are spending nearly all of our time at home. If you are tight on space or looking for a unique way to add a table to a room, wall tables are a great space-saving and cost-effective option. We will discuss the ins and outs of wall tables and give you a few ideas for inspiration about where one might fit into your home.

What is a Wall Table

A wall table is typically mounted to the wall and floating. The tables either fold up in order to save space with a drop-leaf feature or provide a small ledge. This is the case for a high-top table. At home, wall tables make great desk or dining tables, even bar seating or laundry folding stations. Small apartments or living spaces like tiny homes can all benefit from a discreet but multifunctional wall table

Wall Table Design Styles

There are many different uses for a wall table in your home or office. There are also many different styles from which to choose. Below we cover a few of the different options you might find when browsing the online marketplace.

  • Materials/Color

Any new decorative addition to your space needs to match your current design aesthetic. Luckily a wide variety of materials and colors are available from which to choose. This ensures your new wall table will complement the rest of your home.

Some of the most popular options include different stains of wood, and even some industrial inspired hardware. White and black tables are also common options that mix with a variety of styles.

  • Structure

There are a couple of primary structural styles that divide wall tables into two groups. The first group is the permanent fixture. Once installed the wall table serves as a workstation that does not move or get smaller in size. The second style is wall tables that do in fact fold via a drop-leaf for convenience and space-saving purposes.

Another popular structural feature on many wall tables is the inclusion of additional shelving or storage space. Extra storage can be helpful if you are using your table as a workstation or vanity. Kitchens that are low in storage could also benefit from a wall table with shelving.

  • Size

Consider how large of a space you have to work with. Will the wall table be a feature with a permanent footprint in terms of size? Perhaps you need it to fold up in order to save space during the times it is not in use. Again, as with the material and color options, there is a range in size from small to much larger and longer.

Deciding the best use case for your new wall table will also help you to determine the best size to meet your needs. If you’re looking for a desk you may not need but a few feet of surface space to work with, but if the goal is to have a table or larger bar seating setup, a longer, wider or even high-top table option should be a better fit.

The Best Places to Install a Wall Table

The versatility that a wall table provides is hard to fully sum up, so we have compiled a helpful list of use-case scenarios around your home where a wall table will make a great addition.

  • Living Room

If your living area is tight and a full-sized TV stand or media center is out of the question, wall tables can provide a stable surface to support your television while you relax at the end of the day.

  • Kitchen

Wall tables in the kitchen have a variety of possible uses. There is the option of installing one to serve as a traditional dining table or coffee bar. We consider you may have a glass desk, wall tables can also be convenient for holding appliances or setting up your own coffee station when counter space is low.

  • Bar Area

An empty wall in your multipurpose room or finished basement could be a great place to add a bar feature. When you have guests over, they will appreciate having a place to set their drinks down, or with some stools, a convenient place to sit down.

  • Bedroom

In the age of working from home, it can be hard to create a designated workstation if there is not a lot of room to spare, or if your budget is small and buying a large desk is out of the question. Especially if you live with roommates or a partner, carving out a quiet space to work can be difficult. Wall tables allow you to establish a comfortable space without imposing or having to give up space in your bedroom.

  • Tiny home

Those who live in tiny homes know a thing or two about space-saving measures. A wall table is a great fit for such a small space. Multifunctional is the name of the game in order to save space and a wall table can serve as a dining table and a desk that can be quickly stored away to provide more space when needed.

  • Outside Patio

Similar to an indoor bar area, an outside deck or patio with a railing is an opportune place to install a wall table for convenient outdoor living. If you are hosting a barbeque or cookout, a wall table will provide guests with an accessible place to eat or rest their drinks.

There are many factors that go into choosing the right wall table for your space. It is important to consider the color and materials available, and also the size and functionality of your new table so it will be the best fit for your home and needs. Hopefully, you even found some inspiration in the ideas above. Check out some of the top-rated wall tables on Amazon below to find the one that will meet your needs.

How to Choose the Right Shower Curtain for your Space

standart shower curtain

Sometimes the simplest of accessories can make a huge difference in the feel of a space. For example, updating your shower curtain is a quick and effortless option to enliven the room and give it a refresh. There are a few things to consider when looking to update your shower curtain that if you address them before going shopping, will help you avoid headaches later on. We’ve outlined a helpful guide to choosing the standard shower curtain set for your space.

Size of a Standard Shower Curtain

You may be surprised to learn that there is actually more than one size shower curtain that is considered to be standard size. While curtains come in many unique lengths, here are the most common standard shower curtain size you will find when shopping around:

  • 70×70 inches
  • 70×72 inches
  • 72×72 inches

These sizes are very close in measurement to one another. Typically any shower curtain you find will adequately fit your bathtub shower. However, it is always safe to measure rather than assume a shower curtain is the best fit for your space. It should always be a bit longer than the length of your bathtub to prevent a mess.

How to Measure Your Shower

To determine whether a unique size option will be necessary for your shower curtain, take the time to measure your shower opening properly. Taking note of the height and width is the best strategy.

In order to accurately determine the width, use a measuring tape to measure the distance between the two sides of your shower opening. If you have a tub, measure the width of the tub. Always add a bit more to the final measurement. This eliminates any potential gaps that could cause water to leak out.

Next, to determine the height, once again use the measuring tape. Ideally, the shower curtain rod will already be installed at this point, providing for a more exact measurement. Measure from the location of the rod to the floor. However, instead of adding extra length like you did with the shower width, subtract a few inches. Subtracting will ensure there is not unnecessary curtain draping on the floor. Build up from the humidity caught in the extra curtain can lead to issues. Mildew and mold– two things you never want in your bathroom– can become issues if a curtain is too long.

If there is no bathtub and you are measuring for a shower stall, only subtract a couple of inches. This allows the water to still be blocked from spilling out without having fabric gathered on the floor.

Lastly, consider your shower curtain hooks, or whatever method for hanging you are using. They could potentially add height variance to this equation. Hooks can easily add a couple of inches in height to the shower curtain.

Picking the Right Style

Now that you have properly measured your shower, you are ready to start hunting for the perfect shower curtain set to elevate your space. Consider both the current design of your bathroom and also the overall size. These two factors will help guide you in your search.

Shower curtains no longer only come in a few colors and patterns. If you have a smaller bathroom to decorate, a good rule of thumb is to not look for prints or colors that are too busy and have the potential to weigh down space. Find a proper fitting white shower curtain or one that is primarily white with a basic design. This is the best way to keep the feel of the room light and open. A white shower curtain has the added benefit of complimenting your current style. It provides a neutral appearance in your bathroom space.

If you want to add a little interest, look for shower curtains with a texture or additional fabric. A white shower curtain with ruffles or tassels adds a bit of drama and can be an eye-catching focal point.

To add visual height to a small bathroom, look to hang your shower curtain rod higher off the ground. Make sure you do not forget to re-measure and purchase a shower curtain that is still the appropriate length.

Choosing the right shower curtain for your space is not too difficult. Measuring to determine the right standard shower curtain size for your space is the first step. After, all that is left to do is shop around for the perfect shower curtain. To make the search easier for you, we have listed a few of Amazon’s top-rated white shower curtains.

How to Use Brick Wallpaper in your Home

Vase with beautiful tulips against white brick wallpaper

In recent years, wallpaper has been growing in popularity for interior designers and homeowners. While it has gone in and out of style over time, it is proving to be the right choice for many who want to add a little interest to their home without committing to paint. One trend that has emerged is faux brick wallpaper. It gives the appearance of exposed brick walls throughout your home.

If you are looking for a unique way to add interest to a room or wall for your next project, consider brick wallpaper. Regardless of your style or budget, there is a wallpaper out there for you.

The Benefits of Brick Wallpaper

There are many reasons to explore the option of brick wallpaper when compared to alternatives such as paint or whitewashing. Below we have outlined a few of the biggest benefits for choosing wallpaper:

  • Accessible

There is commitment involved anytime you decide to open up a can of paint. Oftentimes renters are limited in the number of updates that they can make, and they should not be permanent. White brick wallpaper can solve this issue since it can easily be removed at any time.

Wallpaper can seem daunting to install initially. In reality, there are a number of peel-and-stick wallpaper options available or paste the wall options. The changeability is great for renters and homeowners wanting to explore new design options that can easily be updated later. Wallpaper is also a great alternative to manually painting the brick look with a stencil. This method is both permanent and time-consuming.

  • Cost

A faux brick wallpaper is a great choice when you want to achieve the exposed brick look, but don’t want to spend tons of time and money on extensive renovations. The daunting alternative of structural alterations to walls can become messy and costly.

Brick wallpapers are more affordable than ever, with great options available on Amazon. Many of these options are very convincing in appearance and great quality. Check out a few of our recommendations below.

  • Appearance

Wallpaper can add dimension and depth to space where it didn’t exist before. Alternatives such as paint are not able to easily do the same. It has the ability to take a flat white wall and turn it into a focal point for the room. The rough yet sophisticated texture of an exposed brick wall has a rich appearance. The wallpaper modernizes the texture.

A wallpaper can be a sleek and fun statement to add to your home without the commitment and cost of real brick. We’ll share ways to incorporate this trend into your home in the next section.

Brick Wallpaper Design Ideas

  • Bedroom or Bathroom Wall

A popular way to incorporate brick wallpaper into a room is by choosing a wall to accent. An accent wall is a great choice to enliven a space in an aesthetically pleasing way.

With many design options available, choosing a brick wallpaper to complement and enhance your home decor is simple. It can add warmth to an otherwise drab space while maintaining an open and bright feel. 3D brick wallpaper, black wallpaper is also available and can offer an interesting way to add dimension to a flat space.

  • Kitchen Backsplash

If you do not want to invest the time and money into a tile backsplash and want more of visual interest than paint alone can provide, white wallpaper makes a great addition to kitchens. It is a beautiful choice for a backsplash that is durable and long-lasting. There are many design options available that can coordinate nicely with your cabinetry and hardware throughout the space.

  • Living Room Built-In Shelving Accent

As the name would suggest, most people consider wallpaper something that can only be used on walls. However, a creative way to use wallpaper might be as an accent on your shelving.

Shelving sometimes needs a little bit of a boost to take it from dull to noteworthy. Consider using white brick wallpaper as lining for the back of your shelves. If you have built-ins there is the added bonus of giving the appearance of an exposed brick wall behind them.

Brick Wallpaper Installation

As previously mentioned, brick wallpaper can be surprisingly simple to install. With peel and stick options available it has never been easier. Pay attention to detail and following instructions. Your new brick wallpaper backsplash or mural will be finished in no time.

Here are a few tips from the pros:

  1. Before you start your project, confirm the surface you have in mind is appropriate for installation. Not every self-adhesive, temporary wallpaper is recommended for all surfaces.
  2. Order a small sample of a brick wallpaper you are thinking of using and test it first. Choose an inconspicuous area to ensure that it properly sticks to your surface and removes cleanly and easily.
  3. Wash down the walls before you start. You want a clean, blank slate for this project.
  4. Determine how much wallpaper you’ll need by calculating the square footage of your wall space. Order a little bit more wallpaper than you think you will need. You can always return the extra if it is unopened.
  5. Use a squeegee to smooth out any air pockets once it is on the wall. Then use an Exacto knife to trim around baseboards for a clean line.

Do you think your space could use a little bit of an update? If so, is brick wallpaper something you would ever consider? We have compiled a list of the top-rated brick wallpapers on Amazon below to help make your decision easier.

8 Best Trundle Bed We discovered

Trundle Bed

Have you ever needed an extra bed, but don’t have space for it? Do you hate the overall look of having a mattress floating around in that room? If so, maybe you should consider a trundle bed.

According to Merriam-Webster, the name comes from the 16th century Old English words “trended”, which means to revolve, which aptly describe the function of a trundle bed. It usually exists as a “bed under a bed”, where it rolls out from below for easy accessibility and storage.

Trundle Bed

While originally it was used for servants’ handmaids. Nowadays they have been made more comfortable so that anyone who uses it feels like a king. This allows for it to be hidden when not in use. Making a room look sleeker while granting one the ability to sleep more people in a room when needed. It can be used on either carpeted or hardwood floors, as the wheels can roll over either surface.

Types of Trundle Beds

There are a few types of trundle beds. First is the day bed. Unlike most bed frames. It has one of the sides of the bed closed off, which is usually placed next to the wall. It used as a seating area during the day and then used as an actual bed at night. They often have space under the frame to store a bed, with the top. It usually being a queen-sized bed, while the trundle bed is twin-sized. After that is a sleigh bed, which has a headboard and a footboard. And It often has space under them to conceal a trundle, though some already come with one.

Next is a captain bed, which follows the same formula as a sleigh bed. But also uses some space in the headboard and under the top bed for storage drawers, which will require a slimmer trundle bed, but can fit one nonetheless.

Finally, bunk beds can have a trundle bed, with the space under the bottom be used to store a trundle bed. Most of the time, the daybeds will be made of metal, which is cheaper and more minimalistic, but also somewhat less stable. On the other hand, sleigh beds, captain beds, and bunk beds will be made from wood, which is more ornate and sturdier, but also more expensive.

How Much Do Trundle Bed Cost?

Usually, the trundle bed will be a twin-sized bed that is slightly thinner than the bed above it, at around 8 inches in height, so it’s perfect for younger people who can fit on a smaller frame.

Trundle Bed

The one downside is that it will not have a traditional spring box, so those who need additional support, such as the elderly and those with physical disabilities, while sleeping may not find it comfortable.

Additionally, it is somewhat more expensive than a traditional bed, due to the part snot being interchangeable with a traditional bed, and lower general consumer interest, with trundle in itself costing under $100, a complete set costing $200, with a daybed adding $50 to that price, while a drawer-style trundle bed will cost at most $500, and finally, a bunk having a price of $600; additionally, a trundle bed will require more specialized assembly than a traditional bed.

Uses of Trundle Beds

If you are questioning if a bed is right for you, here are a couple of scenarios where you might find it useful. Firstly, if you are a parent, your children might host sleepovers with their friends. In this case, having a trundle bed would be extremely useful, as children tend to be smaller, and thus will find a trundle bed plenty spacious for their purposes. Additionally, perhaps you have many children but not enough rooms for all of them, in which case a combination of a bunk bed and trundle bed underneath would allow for you to have the capacity for 3 people in one compact space, and given that the trundle bed can roll away when not in use, there will still be space for the children to walk around when not sleeping.

Trundle Bed

Or perhaps you are a college student, and, in order to save money, you share a studio apartment with a roommate, who could sleep on the trundle bed in order to maximize usage of space, or perhaps you are having a party in your apartment, and an attendee is not feeling well and must stay the night, in which case you could pull out the trundle bed to give them somewhere to rest. Finally, if you are a family hosting some guests overnight, you could use a trundle bed to need only 1 guest room for 2 individuals, which would be significantly cheaper than having a room, and much easier on the family instead of having them rearrange their sleeping conditions to accommodate the guests.

Even if you don’t need an additional bed, a trundle bed still has some utility, as the box that holds the mattress in most cases could be used for storage of clothes that are out of season, electronics that have become obsolete but still have some sentimental value, or even as a place to store valuables that an intruder would not suspect, especially in a child’s room, where important items would not be presumed to be placed.

Your living room is the heart of relaxation in your home. It is where your friends and family come together, where you entertain, have conversations or just relax. If gotten right, it is the one piece that will tie up the whole space and bring all the interior design options you were exploring with your other furniture and fittings together.

Frankly, your living space isn’t complete, but finding such a statement piece isn’t as hard as most people would like to make it. Suppose you understand your taste and can visualize how you want the space to look like in the end. A coffee table like a mid-century modern coffee table can quickly transform your space, and if you are bold enough with your choices, it will serve as a conversation starter.

Before you embark on your style update, here are some reason why you need a good coffee table

How a mid-century coffee table can update a space.

Organize the space.

A good coffee table can be an article of style and function. If you prioritize making a coffee table the focal point of the room, everything in the house can be arranged to revolve around it. It will become the star of the room and transform your humble space to something of an interior design magazine. Without the coffee table, the first culprits to fall of their order will be the couches followed by all the mess people can make when moving things in the room.  Likewise, when you shop for a coffee table, you likely come across some with cross shelves. This is your opportunity to remove things that would normally clutter the tabletop and put them in a place where they can only be retrieved when needed. Be it books, pens, candles, keys etc.

Balance out space.

Don’t you just hate seeing dead space in the middle of a room? Or worse, everything in the space seeming quite off-center? If you’re like us and appreciate a well-organized space, a good coffee table is an excellent accessory to even our line and balance sides of the room.

Besides that, if your other furniture is mostly monotone, you may go for something like a black coffee table to even out the color palettes. Coffee tables liven up space or distract attention from places where things are a bit overdone to create a distinctively stylish look in the living room. If your living room is looking drab or just tired, there no reason to think of going overboard with a renovation or buying new furniture all around. A coffee table is the focal point of any room, and if you play with colors and designs, you can revamp your space and fall in love with it again.

Maximize every inch of space in your space

The layout of the space plays a lot in the overall feel of the space. Consider a case where there are large gaps between furniture. Space is only good up to a certain point, and any unused space can start to make the whole place look like an expensive mess. Another case is when you have a sectional with a chaise, consider adding a mid century modern coffee table to the layout to add functionality and tie everything in.

There is no rule that states you have to use one coffee table in space, for large spaces, feel free to use more than one if it complements the space. Alternatively, you can go more extensive with the size of the table if more than one table doesn’t work for you. Also, you can take a look at the lift top coffee table for extra spaces.

Showcase your powerful sense of style.

Since you can find a mid-century modern coffee table in almost any style, you can conceive this as your chance to do something creative with the room. Be it bold, reserved, modern, or rustic, whichever way you go, the space is individual to you, and you can choose to express yourself whichever way you deem fit.

Decorating Your Coffee Table.

Let’s be honest, besides living without a coffee table, chances are your coffee table is the thing that your whole living space is based around. Coffee tables are more than a platform to put your legs or other items. Classic ways of decorating include stacking books or putting a flower vase on it. With books, you have an excellent way to start a conversation if you have friends who share your interests and flowers are just pleasant to look at!  Adding contrast to a space with a feature color or just going for a bold color like a black coffee table will also get the tongues wagging.  Depending on the size of your table, you may choose to play with different artful arrangements that will highlight the table at the center of the room. Play with objects of different sizes on the table and remember to swap out your table arrangements seasonally to refresh the look of the living room. Without this, you are likely to be bored with that table sooner that you think.

The Best Mid-Century Modern Coffee Tables

If you are facing the challenge of reinventing your living space with a mid-century modern coffee table, it is understandable if you get flustered. After all, this is something you probably want to stay with for a while, for budget reasons. Furthermore, it has to tie in with whatever you have at the moment or plan to add to the living room in the future. It demands that you come up with fresh ideas while still considering factors such as budget, table size, and time spent looking for a new table.  Every small detail counts and will be decisive to the overall aesthetic of your living room. For these reasons, the pressure is on, right from the moment you decide. If you are here, fret not, read on to find our pick of the best mid-century modern coffee tables with the power to transform and renew your mid-century modern living room.

How to Use Black Wallpaper in Interior Design

Black Wallpaper Main Image

Black is a statement color and it frightens a lot of people when they try to use it in their home. They’re worried that if they put it on the wall, that room will become dark and drab. But black can be a beautiful color on any wall in the home, either as a feature or a background to the primary design. And if you use black wallpaper, it can be quicker and easier to install than paint. Plus, you can easily use black wallpaper on furniture and craft projects, not just walls.

How to Use Black Wallpaper in Your Home

In this article, we’ll show you all the fun things you can do with black wallpaper to add a splash of modern style to your home. We’ll also give you step-by-step instructions on how to install it and what tools you will need to complete your wallpaper project.

Create Drama With An Accent Wall

Accent walls are an easy way to incorporate a bold, dramatic color into a room without committing to covering all four walls with it. The key to making an accent wall is choosing the right one. One option is to pick the wall that is furthest away from you when you walk into a room. This will draw your eyes further inside and make the room appear longer. Another great option is to choose a long wall. This will feature the black wallpaper even more and give you plenty of space to add decorations or center large furniture, like a King-size bed or a couch in front of it.

Alternate It With Other Wallpaper Colors

Break up the dark color with opposite colors, like white wallpaper or gold wallpaper. One fun design option is to create stripes by cutting strips of different colors and sticking them side by side on the walls. Or, if you want to get really creative, you can use scissors to cut a graphic design out of gold or white wallpaper and then stick the design onto black wallpaper to make it pop.

Add A Splash Of Color To The Inside Of Your Bookcase

When you have a white or light-colored bookcase, something you can do to spruce it up and add a splash of monochromatic color is stick black wallpaper to the inside of it. The black wallpaper will break up the light monotony and also provide a dark background for you to feature your favorite books or knick-knacks.

If the back of your bookcase is detachable, you can just spread the black wallpaper all over the part of the back that faces out towards you. That way, if you need to adjust the shelves, you don’t have to reposition the wallpaper. If your bookcase has no detachable back and the shelves are fixed, too, like built-ins, just measure the space length and height of the spaces between each shelf and then cut the wallpaper into sections to fit.

Put It In A Frame And Make Artwork

There’s no need to spend a lot of money on artwork when you can just buy some inexpensive wallpaper or use what’s leftover from a larger project. Brick wallpaper can be used to make a beautiful block of color that will pop on your light-colored walls. Simply stick it to a canvas or to the cardboard inside of a picture frame and then hang it on the wall. If you want, you can use it as a background color and stick photos to it, or paste a graphic design made with vother wallpaper colors onto it, as we talked about above.

This is also a great method of creating cohesion in your interior design, by using the same wallpaper in different ways throughout the room or the entire house.

Guvana Stripe Black And White Peel And Stick Wallpaper

This wallpaper by Guvana is printed with thick black and white stripes oriented vertically, which can actually give the illusion that a surface (such as a wall) is taller than it really is. It’s peel and stick, waterproof and easy to clean.

Black Silk Wallpaper

Raise the luxury factor in a room by putting up black wallpaper embossed to look and feel like silk. It’s a fun way to incorporate texture if you want a wallpaper that’s a little more interesting than just matte black. It’s peel and stick, easy to keep clean and easy to remove.

How to Install Wallpaper

When you want to install peel and stick wallpaper, there are some basic steps that apply to pretty much every wallpaper across the board. Here are some supplies you’ll need to begin the installation:

  • A sponge or rag
  • A mild cleaning solution (water will also work)
  • Measuring tape
  • Pencil
  • Plastic smoothing tool
  • Utility knife or scissors

Step 1: Wipe the wall or surface that you’re going to stick the wallpaper to clean with the cloth or sponge and the cleaning solution. It’s usually best to use a cleaning solution that’s non-abrasive and non-toxic so you don’t damage the surface or leave a film that could prevent the wallpaper from sticking to it properly. Water is a good option if you don’t have anything else. Make sure you give it plenty of time to dry after you clean it  – at least a few hours, even overnight.

Step 2: Use the measuring tape to measure the dimensions of the surface you want to stick the wallpaper to. Then, measure these same dimensions on the back of your wallpaper and mark the edges with a pencil. (Most of the peel and stick wallpapers have a grid line on the back you can use to keep your lines straight.) Then cut the wallpaper to the size you need using the utility knife or scissors.

Pro Tip: If the surface is large and requires more than one piece of wallpaper, just make sure your pieces are of equal size and that the patterns line up on the outside.

Step 3: Line the wallpaper piece up to the surface’s edges and get it as close to them as you possibly can. Start with one corner and slowly peel back some of the film on the back of the wallpaper. Then stick it little by little, pulling back the film a little bit at a time, to the surface. (You might want a friend or family member to help you with this part.) As you go, use the plastic smoothing tool to smooth out the air bubbles and wrinkles.

Step 4: When you reach the end of the piece of wallpaper and stick it to the surface, go back over it with the plastic smoothing tool. Then stand back and take a look at your handiwork. If it looks crooked, most peel and stick wallpapers are easily removable and reusable, so just peel it off and try again. If you have another piece that needs to go on, let it overlap with the first piece a little bit and make sure that the patterns line up.

Step 5: After you have all your pieces in place, run the smoothing tool over all of it to make it as smooth and bubble-free as possible. Then sit back and enjoy the fruits of your labor: a surface covered in beautiful, stylish wallpaper.

Black wallpaper can be an essential element in any form of interior design. You can use it on your walls, on furniture, and even as artwork. You don’t have to stick with just plain matte black because there are lots of patterns and textures to choose from. Or you can keep it classic and use it as a background for other colors, like white and gold, to pop out of. It can also be the perfect backdrop for photographs in a frame. The applications for black wallpaper are endless.

Wallpapers: Why you need them in your homes?

White Wallpaper

Usually, when homeowners think of beautifying or refurbishing the walls of their homes, their minds tend to go to whitewashing, painting, and spraying colors. Only a few think of wallpaper.

However, wallpaper now comes in a variety of exciting and elegant patterns and colors, a brilliant distinction from what was available in centuries past.

Durability, cost-effectiveness, safety, and its ability to enliven any room and various surfaces are some features that make wallpapers a preferred choice.

Perhaps, the most interesting fact about wallpaper is that they are for everyone. Regardless of who you are, what your design style is like, or how your home looks, there is a wallpaper out there that is right for you.

How to use Wallpaper at home

Most people assume that wallpaper is exclusive to wall usage and you can’t blame them, even its name suggests so. True, wallpaper is mostly used to transform walls, but it can also be applied on other surfaces.

  • Cover the walls in different ways

The most common use of wallpaper is to cover all the walls in a space. The trick to making this work is to erase the memories of the garish patterns of the 1970s and the delicate floral of the 1980s and embrace contemporary colors, patterns, and styles.

Using graphic wallpapers with vivid patterns and colors to cover all the walls in a room gives a bold outlook, while a simple pattern or texture create a subtle impact.

Another common approach to covering walls with paper is to either place the wallpaper on the top or bottom half of a wall. Ideally, the space between the papered and non-papered halves should be separated with some type of architectural molding like a chair rail.  This style ensures that you achieve the desired look without overwhelming the space.

If you are aiming for a more bold look, opt for covering the top half of a wall with one paper and the bottom half with another. Remember that the patterns should complement instead of fight with each other.

Lastly, you can create a feature wall. A wallpapered feature wall is a great way to either create or amplify an already existing focal point. The key to pulling this off is installing the wallpaper on spots that the eye is naturally drawn to like behind the TV or fireplace.

  • Wallpaper on the Ceiling

The ceiling, or fifth wall as some like to call it, offers an excellent opportunity to have some fun with wallpaper and create a distinctive look. If you’re going to take this route, you may as well go all out and choose highly decorative or daring designs. Don’t waste the effort on subtlety. You might however need to contact an expert for this type of installation.

  • Decoupage Furniture

If you are thinking of up cycling an old piece or adding a little flair to plain furniture consider applying wallpaper to it. This works brilliantly on pieces that have clean lines and simple silhouettes, – not too many curves -, such as chests of drawers or console tables. The paper you intend to use doesn’t have to have a pattern; sometimes a textured wallpaper such as seagrass adds just the right amount of interest.

  • Decorate the Inside of a Bookcase

Wallpaper can also be used to add a little decorative flair to an open bookcase and thus complement your room’s design. An easy way to decorate shelves with pretty-patterned paper is to cut out pieces of foam core that fit each nook and apply the wallpaper directly to them. That way you can avoid applying paper directly to the piece of furniture and you can easily take it out.

  • Hang Wallpaper as Art

Having a sample piece framed and hanging it on the wall is a great way to incorporate the pattern into your room without the effort or expense of traditional applications. Another similar method is to hang a long piece and install dowels at either end so it looks like a scroll. Perhaps, the best thing about these types of wall hangings is that they require minimal effort and provide instant transformations.

Benefits of Wallpapers

  • Versatility

Unlike painting or tiling, using wallpaper offers homeowners a wealth of choices when it comes to designs and colors. There is wallpaper for every room in the house. If you have kids, you can choose lively and fun wallpapers that complement their living environment; or if you prefer your home to be in classic style, there are thousands of classic pattern wallpaper to choose from which match your dream house space and the furniture within.  Wallpaper also allows you to constantly follow the latest trend in home design and accommodates all kinds of preferences.

  • Easy Maintenance

Using and maintaining wallpaper is relatively easy and does not require special skills or expensive materials. To clean most wallpaper, all you need is a piece of cloth, sponge, and detergent. Paper wallpaper can’t be washed with water but can be wiped with a clean cloth or soft brush. Some wallpapers can be cleaned with a damp cloth, and washable wallpaper washes easily with water and a simple detergent solution, making it ideal for spaces like living rooms, dining rooms, and bedrooms. Some wallpaper are scrubbable, which means that they can withstand scrubbing with a brush and a specific detergent solution.  Wallpapers in this category are usually more durable than washable wallpaper and are most useful in heavy wear areas such as a kitchen, bath, or laundry room.

  • Hides Imperfections

If you live in an older house, you know how unsightly cracked walls can be. Fortunately, wallpaper can help to mask a variety of imperfections including cracked, damaged, uneven, or not perfectly squared parts of a wall. Both paint and wallpaper are known to enliven bland spaces but wallpaper goes a step further with its ability to disguise flaws which can be much less time-consuming and tedious than fixing all the little or big imperfections throughout the wall.

  • Simple Installation and Removal

Many people avoid using wallpaper for their interior decorations because they are worried about the installation process. However, this is no longer the case, thanks to paste the wall wallpaper. This type of wallpaper has made installation and removal easier than ever and can be just about as easy as paint. Installing this new wallpaper involves applying paste directly to the wall and hanging the wallpaper dry, making it easier to work with as opposed to the traditional papers which you must soak in water and hang while wet.  When you are ready for an update or tired of the paper simply pull up a corner and pull the entire wall covering strip off the wall; no tools, no hassle.

  • Durable and Long Lasting

Another exciting benefit of wallpaper is that it durable and long-lasting, thus meeting the needs of different lifestyles and applications, and holding up to the wear and tear of children or conditions in high traffic areas. In fact, lifecycle experts suggest that wall coverings can now last five times longer than paint under typical usage conditions.

Most wallpaper will have a lifespan between 10-15 years making your work last a long time once it is installed. Whereas, painted wall chips and cracks over time, and will likely require repainting after only a few years and in turn need more work.

Best Wallpaper for Home Design

If you’re certain a wallpaper is what your house needs to liven up but you are having difficulty in choosing the best wall covering for your space, these designs can help. Below are various wallpaper types from quality brands.

Decorating a room with blue wallpaper luxuriates that space. You can expect the same impact with blue arrowhead wallpaper. This navy blue wall covering gives a vivid and regal look and can be perfectly stitched together. It is a moderately thick self-adhesive paper which means you don’t have to worry about buying additional glue. An interesting feature of blue arrowhead stick and peel wallpaper is that it can be applied to any object with a smooth surface, such as walls, glass, tables and chairs, kitchen counters, bedside tables, bookcases, handicrafts, etc. Also, cleaning and removal are super easy and tidy.  The wallpaper can be removed without damaging your walls or leaving a mess and cleaned by simply wiping with a wet towel.

If you’re not into bold and vivid looks but prefer a neutral scheme for your home or room space, then you should consider white wallpaper. But not just any white wallpaper, Brewster Destinations by The Shore Beadboard. Why this brand? This wallpaper is bold enough to be noticed but subtle enough not to take over space. It is also easy to install and use and prepasted with a strong adhesive. The wallpaper is also washable and strippable.

One of the unique features of white wallpaper is its versatility. So, if you find Brewster’s wallpaper too plain, you can always go for something a bit more striking like Nuwallpaper white brick wallpaper. This wallcovering allows you to fake the exposed brick look and it looks impressively realistic. It also sticks easily to any flat surface and is safe for walls.

Often, people install gold wallpaper to incorporate a dramatic effect on their space. However, Tempaper Marrakesh is different as it is mild and less dramatic. Similar to the previously mentioned products, this wallpaper is also self-adhesive thus requiring no paste or glue. This ready-to-use paper is repositionable, making patterns easy to align, DIY friendly, and steam and moisture resistant.

It can be used to decorate an accent wall or entire room as well as furniture, bookcases, stair risers, drawers, and so on. Spruce up your bathroom and kitchen with this gold wallpaper.

Contrary to popular belief, pink wallpaper is not for children’s spaces alone, it can also be used to decorate other parts of the house. In fact, pink wallcovering like PracticalWs plain pink can have a highly positive impact on your space, creating feelings of calmness, helping to alleviate stress and tension. Fortunately, it calls also be used to transform your gift, cabinets, walls, shelves, drawers, and crafts. Cut, peel, and stick according to the gridlines to install – easy right? To avoid bubbles ensure you apply on smooth, clean, and dry surfaces.

If you’re looking for a more daring effect with wallpapers or an extravagant, stylish, and even a little mysterious interior, then black wallpapers should be your choice. Black wallcoverings like Graham & Brown’s easy crocodile black wallpaper tests your sense of taste and style. As a general rule, black wallpaper shouldn’t be used in large amounts in small rooms and even when it is applied to a larger room, it shouldn’t be used to cover all the walls. Also, black wall covers must be combined with light decoration and furniture, glossy and shiny elements, greenery, bright accents to avoid turning the space into a gloomy sight.

This is a floral patterned vinyl wallpaper. The great about this beautiful wallpaper is that it’s durable, washable, and can be used in rooms with high humidity. It also doesn’t fade in the sun or shrinks. This wallpaper is the perfect choice for anyone who wishes to make a masterpiece out of their room but lacks artistic talent. With this floral patterned wallcovering, you can easily turn a simple room into a work of art.

How To Install Wallpapers

This a simple guide on how to install self-adhesive or peel-and-stick wallpaper, like those mentioned above on walls. First, you need the following supplies:

  • Sponge or cloth
  • Mild cleaner
  • Measuring tape
  • Straightedge
  • Pencil
  • Peel-and-stick wallpaper
  • Plastic smoothing tool
  • Utility knife

Now, down to business

Step 1: Wipe the wall’s surface with a damp sponge or cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner and wait at least 24 hours to allow the surface to dry completely.

Step 2: Measure the width of your wallpaper,  then transfer that measurement to your wall using a pencil. Along your marks, draw a line from the ceiling to the baseboard or the length of the area you’d like the cover using a straightedge and level. This guide will enable you to apply the first strip of wallpaper in a straight line.

Step 3: Starting from the ceiling, apply about 12 inches of your peel-and-stick wallpaper, and be sure to line it up with the lines on the walls. Press and smooth the wallpaper, from top to bottom. Run a plastic smoothing tool downwards to remove air bubbles. Once the entire strip adheres to the wall, use your straight edge and a small utility knife to carefully cut along the baseboard and remove any excess.

Step 4: When installing subsequent pieces, line up the wallpaper’s pattern to ensure a seamless look. Place the second piece to slightly overlapping the first and run the smoothing tool along the seam to make it lay as flat as possible.

Step 5: if you notice any remaining bubbles, use the tip of your utility knife or a pin to create a small hole in the middle of the bubble. Then press down to release the air trapped inside and smooth the wallpaper.

For an instant decoration, line your room with wallpaper. Paper can push boundaries beyond what paint can do – from blah to bold in a matter of hours. With a variety of textures, patterns, and colors, wallpaper is suitable for every room in a home including bathrooms.  What’s more, they are not limited to walls, you can also use wallpaper to beautify your furniture, shelves, ceilings, and lampshade. Plus, it masks minor imperfections, too.

Choosing and Hanging the Perfect Shower Curtain

Shower Curtain

Are you having trouble picking the perfect shower curtain for your bathroom? With an endless array of textures, materials, and designs, it’s easy to get overwhelmed when choosing what will most likely be the focal point of your bathroom.

I’m going to walk you through the top interior design tips for outfitting your bathroom with the ideal shower curtain, but first – you need to understand your options.

Shower Curtain Design Styles

From printed scenes to tassels and texture, your shower curtain could take on just about any vibe you are looking for. This is great for versatility and creative expression, but also an incredibly vast experience. Read on to get some shower curtain ideas.

Material –

First, you will have fabrication. Shower curtains can come in many fabrics from cotton to vinyl and the material you choose will set the tone for your bathroom. For instance, a vinyl shower curtain will be slick and water-resistant – easy and perfect for functionality. A cotton shower curtain, however, will require a second, water-repelling liner to keep water inside the tub when the shower is running.

Your cloth curtains will require more maintenance to keep them clean and free of mold, even with a vinyl guard. Though they will elevate the decor in your bathroom. Cloth shower curtains can come in a variety of textures, from microfiber to velvet. This gives them the versatility to truly bring glam and elegance to any space – should you so choose.

Design –

Basically, you can choose a print or a solid color. The options for printed shower curtains are actually phenomenal. You could choose a paisley, a map of the world, or even mermaids. Truly, it’s what your heart desires.

As for a solid color, this is probably the better choice if the rest of your bathroom décor is of a busier nature or you just enjoy traditional decor. A solid color can also make it easy to change bathroom themes should you grow tired of your current set up.

Whichever you choose, there’s no doubt that a unique shower curtain could spruce up your bathroom! Even if you choose to forgo a pattern and stick with a solid white or red shower curtain, you could easily go with an interesting fabric to bring texture into space.

Hanging Style –

Similar to window curtains, standard shower curtain will come in different styles in terms of the way hang from the shower rod. The most common shower curtain styles come with holes at the top of the liner to insert shower hooks into. These will then hang from the shower rod and should slide back and forth with ease.

A grommet-style shower curtain will not need shower hooks. These curtains will have a pocket running through the top of the curtain. This pocket is made for the shower rod to slide through and the shower curtain will hang down.

Design Tips for Hanging a Shower Curtain

Once you have decided which style of shower curtain would fit your home best, you can begin to hang them in ways that will elevate the look and feel of your bathroom. In keeping with design tricks for hanging window treatments, your shower curtain can do plenty to change the appearance of the bathroom.

If you have low ceilings, hanging a shower curtain as high as possible will make your ceilings appear taller. This will bring an elegant feel to your bathroom. When deciding to hang your curtain high on the wall, you will need to pay close attention to the size of the curtain you are choosing. The shower curtain should hover the floor and still keep the water in the bathtub – functionality is key after all.

If you really want to do something fun and unique with your shower space, consider buying two of the same shower curtains. Then, hang them both and split the two – just as you would a window treatment. This will give your shower a beautiful frame that is sure to bring you compliments for your creativity.

Another great tip to promote cleanliness and upscale your bathroom is to double your shower curtain. You will have two shower rods, directly in line with one another. One will be for your shower liner and the other will be for your decorative curtain. Doing this will promote drying and prevent mold, while effortlessly bringing luxury to your space.
